I’m now out of contract on my BlackBerry Classic mobile phone.

Kinja'd!!!

I can upgrade on O2 to a Blackberry KeyOne for £39 a month which gets me unlimited calls and texts and 20Gb of data with no money upfront for the handset.

Kinja'd!!!

Should I go for it?

It has to be a Blackberry, I need the keys.

I played with one for a little bit. I like it. Currently waiting for Best Buy to have the CDMA unlocked versions in stock.

This used to be my work phone. It was pretty great. If you like it that much, get the KeyOne.

I tend to keep mine even when the contract ends until it starts to break down or the batter is shot. I had an iPhone 5 for about 4 years before I got my 6s when the battery was barely holding a charge and I dropped it in water.

They can be had for £450 unlocked/sim free but I don’t want to buy the handset outright if I can pay it off £15 a month as part of the monthly tariff.

I got a KeyOne about a month ago, its my first BlackBerry, and I’m liking it a lot. Excellent battery life, and it has a real quality feel to it. I knew I missed having a real keypad, but didn’t know how badly until I got it back.

I’ve stopped paying attention to phones, I just buy $100 androids when I need a new one (just got a samsung j2 pop galaxy express prime or some shit). This looks great though, I may have to spend some money. I work off my phone half the day, and after being on touch type for 2 years I still suck at it and want a bb again

The letter ‘A’ has been sticking for the last month or so on my Classic.

I think my phone knows I’m looking elsewhere for a handset.

I need the keys. I can’t get away with touch screen for texting and e-mails.

The KEYone is high up on my list, but I’ll wait until December. As of December 1st this year all phones have to be sold unlocked in Canada.

Droid 3, obviously. The pinnacle of smartphone keyboards. When you don’t need it, slides away nicely and leaves y with a full-sized screen!

It’s also like 6 years old but....

I had two phones similar to this before my BlackBerry days. Good handsets. Just don’t make them any more.

Yeah if that’s not an easy fix I would probably upgrade. That is a very commonly used vowel. I swear my work computer knew it was its last week because it was slower than ever.

Once I get the new handset I’ll probably send this one to be cleaned inside or something and keep it along with my English and my German Torches 9810s.

I don’t need or use all the crazy apps many people use. It suits me perfectly.

I’ve got a dtek50 to replace my Z30 that replaced my Z10 that replaced my bold9900 that replaced my torch that replaced my 8900.

After my 8900 keyboard, I’ve never found one that is nearly as good. The torch came close, but I am now solidly in the on screen camp. And Android by blackberry isn’t bad.

I can handle touch screen for some things, but typing is a physical button thing for me.

I enter the BlackBerry world with two Torch 9800s, then two Torch 9810s, then my present Classic. I had a few years of side slide out Internet phones and prior to that I spent several years with Samsung flip phones.

I tend to stick with what I know and need. I don’t need it to be too fancy or anything, just a phone I can rely on and operate.

I’d like to think I’m a simple kind of guy.

If I hear one more thing about ruddy Apples I’ll scream. Lol.

If a person wants a phone that just works, without thought, I tell them to get an iPhone.

I used to say blackberry for work, but android works now as well.

Wait it out. At least not until the black one shows up at IFA Berlin.

If you’re on Telus/Koodo, you might have a chance to call in for a free unlock.

I also read on CrackBerry that they fixed the issue almost straight away changing the glue at the factory and fixing already bought ones.

My Classic is still okay so I’ll hold out another month or two.

Reports saying some of the replaced units are still lifting. So just your usual “send you whatever refurb is on the shelf” warranty applies.

This one should be safe to buy.

Retested with more glue.

Personally though... I’m done with BlackBerry, my next phone may be a Palm if they do a vertical slider.

It was actually Palm that got me into Blackberry. I tried a Palm Pre for two weeks and found the buttons just that too small. The Blackberry’s buttons were 50% bigger and so I tried the Blackberry and loved it.

If I got the magnetic charging dock with the Palm like I was supposed to, I may of kept the Palm but they had them on back order and wouldn’t get me one.

Also Palm went over to the non sliding Blackberry style shortly after and I found their handsets too wide and stubby in my hand.

Isn’t TCL the manufacturer for the Blackberry KeyOne?

Yes, TCL is/will be building both BlackBerry and Palm.

Funny enough I actually fired up my Pre 3 and fixed the DB issue on it today. I still have a pile of Touchstone docks.

I’d probably give the Palm a look over but while Blackberry are still around and making handsets with keyboards I’m more inclined to stay with Blackberry.

I guess part of me why I want to go back is I’m just pissed at BlackBerry for ditching software support on my Priv, when it wasn’t even a year old. They still haven’t announced whether it will get Nougat 7.x. We’re closing in to 2 versions of Android behind for a flagship-priced phone.

Ye’, I lost some support on a few things last December for my Classic.

I guess it’s just the modern day nature of the beast.

I’m looking at a website that has the silver/black KeyOne. 20Gb data, unlimited calls and texts on a 24 month contract for £39 (USD$50, CAD$63) a month.
